The tractor was developed at the Polish-Czechoslovak Tractor Research and Development Center in Brno, and then produced at ZM Ursus plants in Poland from 1984 to 2009. A total of 4,857 units were built. Many of these tractors are still in operation on Polish farms, with smaller numbers in various other countries. The mod was created while waiting for the official version with all heavy 4-cylinder engines.
