Watoga Air Field v1.0
This is a rough representation of the now unused airfield at Watoga State Park in West Virginia. The clearing is there, near the Beaver Creek Campground, and still referenced on the park map as the air strip, however from what I can tell is no longer maintained as an airport or listed on any aeronautical chart. The Civilian Conservation Corps were here from 1933 until 1942 and worked to build what is now Watoga State Park. There is a museum dedicated to this there, which I have visited. Apparently it was somewhat special in having an airstrip at all. This mod just places an airport item in the clearing, and I did some ground texture work to make it look decent (Bing imagry kinda sucked here) and try to match the current appearance there, it has a sort of picnic area from the looks of recent satellite images. There is one parking spot to spawn an aircraft. I would recommend a STOL aircraft, the approaches are close to terrain, and to keep it’s bush strip charm I did not trim the trees off the runway ends. Canadian Airlines A320 in the 1987-style livery. Featuring C-FLSS Fin 408 This aircraft was delivered new to Canadian Airlines in March 1992 wearing this livery. When the airline merged with Air Canada in 2001, all of Canadian Airlines A320s were transferred. C-FLSS continued to operate for Air Canada in the “toothpaste” livery until September 2020. Shelter Cove (0Q5), CA, US v1.0.2
Shelter Cove is a community located on the Lost Coast of California. I casually hovered over this place in the World Map and some memories kicked in. Was it Flight Unlimited 2? Or some old FS2k4 scenery? I don’t remember exactly but I’m happy I found this place again. The scenery is wonderful, the default airport rendition is more than passable and, to be honest, there is not much more about the airport besides the runway and a couple of aprons. Less passable were the missing details in the surroundings, namely many missing parts of vegetation, some local shops and the marina and usually that’s what these scenarios are about. I also added a small construction site that I spotted using street view. Sutter County is a nice destination from here as it will take you over the Mendocino National Forest and some other interesting spots like Round Valley Airport, a nice interesting airport surrounded by hills all around that makes for some interesting approaches. Be careful the downdrafts while approaching (similar to 2WA1 in WA) and take note of the sectional chart and airport restrictions.
