Venezuelan Landmarks – El Palito Refinery El Palito refinery is one of the largest oil refining complexes in Venezuela. It is located in the Puerto Cabello municipality, near the town of El Palito, on the coasts of Carabobo State, in Venezuela. It currently has a maximum processing capacity of 140,000 barrels of crude per day. This complex, controlled by the state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), supplied fuel and derivatives to the central west of the country through a system of multiple pipelines that supplied several distribution plants in central and central-west Venezuela. In 2017 their production was semi-paralyzed due to a strong fire. It has recently put back in operation with a very low processing capacity .
To quickly get in the air and see the refinery, you should take-off from RWY11 of the Puerto Cabello Airport (SVPC), then turn to your left (or right, but be carefull with the mountains) to a 270 deg heading, fly low (around 1,000 ft) and slow (around 100 knots) and look for the refinery to the coast. Watch out if flying too low and slow, because of the frequent explosions!.
