SSLN – Helmuth Baumgarten Airport (Glider Aeroclub) v1.0

History Helmuth Baumgarten Airport, or better known as a glider aeroclub, was conceived after 1973. The runway already existed in the municipality of Lontras, in the interior of Santa Catarina, but was forgotten. Mr. Germano, owner of a Cessna that resided at the aerodrome, knew that the airport was bound to close and decided to take action.
To reactivate the runway, Germano then, together with other colleagues, had the initial idea of ​​creating an aeroclub for motor aviation. The idea went ahead because there is already another aeroclub very close (Blumenau) and authorization was not granted. Then came the idea of ​​creating a glider school, and in 1973 the story began of a simple, but beautiful aerodrome amid the mountains of Santa Catarina
