Salses-le-Château – Occitanie v1.0

Salses-le-Château is a French commune, located in the department of Pyrénées-Orientales in the Occitanie region. Its inhabitants are called the Salséens.
The castle is built at the end of the 15th century by Francisco Ramiro Lopez, a great Spanish architect on the site of very useful sources in the event of a siege, the building guards the old border. Besieged, taken and retaken in 1503, 1639, 1640, the place was definitively conquered by the French in 1642. The Pyrenees Treaty of 1659 redesigned the territories: less strategic, the fortress then lost its importance. From 1691, it was partially restored by Vauban.
