Air Europa was created in 1986. At its inception, the company was 75% owned by Spanish banks and is a member of the British ILG-Air Europe Group (which operates Air Europe). Air Europa has substantially the same livery as Air Europe. The company makes charter flights between European cities and Mediterranean resorts with Boeing 737-300 and Boeing 757. In addition to its main charter activity, it is the first private Spanish airline to provide regular national flights. In 1991, the parent company of Air Europa ceased operations, the Spanish airline continued its flights with a growing fleet of Boeing 737 and 757. After signing a franchise agreement with Iberia in 1998 over a short period, the company is now owned by Globalia Corporación Empresarial S.A. At the end of the 1990s, the company introduced the Boeing 737-800 with a new livery.
