Bern city

Bern, capital of Switzerland, is built on a peninsula surrounded by the river Aare. The origins of the city date back to the 12th century, the medieval architecture having been preserved in the Altstadt (the old town). The Federal Assembly and diplomats meet in the Bundeshaus (Federal Palace), a neo-Renaissance building.
