The ATR 42 is a twin-engine turboprop regional airliner manufactured in France and Italy by Avions de Transport Régional. The designation "42" comes from the aircraft's standard number of seats, although it can vary between 40 and 50. This aircraft was the basis for the development of the ATR 72.
