The city's main historic monument, Osaka Castle, built in the 16th century during the shogunate, has undergone several restorations. It is surrounded by moats and a park planted with plum, peach and cherry blossom trees. The Sumiyoshi-taisha is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in the country
