Land your Cessna before the storm hits ,flying into France for the Summer. Following the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, one French airport is now to be named in the late royal’s honour. Marking its appreciation of the former monarch’s 70-year reign across the Channel, the Aéroport international Le Touquet-Côte d’Opale (LFAT) in northern France is to be renamed Aéroport international Le Touquet-Paris-Plage Elizabeth II. Airport officials also took the opportunity to remind passengers of the history the airport shared with Her late Majesty, who visited the seaside town as a child: “In order to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, and in memory of her visit to Le Touquet with her uncle Edward VIII, during which she practised both horse riding and sand yachting, the town of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage wishes to name its airport after her who, for 70 years, served her country with commitment, respect and constancy.” Nicknamed the Garden of the English Channel, British aristocracy and the upper classes mingled on its shorelines for a large part of the early 20th century, with H.G Wells and Noel Coward just a few to have holidayed there. Back in the 1930s, Walcot Airlines provided a daily service to London which would occasionally include royalty.
