Rio de Janeiro is a large city in Brazil located by the sea. It is known for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, its 38-meter-tall statue of Christ the Redeemer located at the top of Corcovado and the Sugar Loaf, peak of granite whose summit is accessible via 2 cable cars. The city is also known for its sprawling favelas (slums). Rio's famous carnival, with parades of floats, flamboyant costumes and samba dancers, is considered one of the biggest in the world.
