Mont-Saint-Michel is a French commune located in the department of Manche in Normandy. It takes its name from the rocky islet dedicated to Saint Michel where the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel stands today. The architecture of Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay make it the busiest tourist site in Normandy1 and one of the ten busiest in FranceNote 2 — the first site after those in Île-de-France — with nearly two million and a half visitors each year (3,250,000 in 20062, 2,376,000 in 20183).
